Ω hmRanger-LCV ® - the affordable Low Compliance Voltage Ohmmeter.

Why the Ω hmRanger-LCV ®?

You need to measure the resistance of a component, but that component is delicate. Most ohmmeters will apply a stimulus voltage to the Device Under Test (DUT) of 3-10V. This stimulus voltage may destroy what you are trying to investigate! The solution is a Low Compliance Voltage ohmmeter, where the stimulus voltage is small and regulated.

With the Ω hmRanger-LCV ®, stimulus voltage is always less than 400mV.

For Example...

The Josephson Junction is the Quantum Computer's equivalent of a 'transistor'. Although it is delicate, the Ω hmRanger-LCV ® can measure its resistance without risking its integrity.

D-Wave Systems, the Quantum Computing systems and services company, needs to measure the resistance of their Josephson Junctions. Working closely, a prototype Low Compliance Voltage Ohmmeter was quickly developed and the design was subsequently refined through testing and practical lab use. The result is the Ω hmRanger-LCV ®, the low compliance voltage ohmmeter, scheduled for general release in late March 2022.

On completion of test and evaluation, D-Wave commented:

"The AltoNovusΩhmRanger-LCV® turned an error-prone measurement into a simple measurement .. a valuable addition to our work building quantum computers."

The fundamental element in D-Wave’s unique product is a Josephson Junction - this is the "transistor" in a quantum computer. In practice, these devices are extremely sensitive and easy to damage. Measuring the resistance with a standard multimeter will destroy the Josephson Junction.

AltoNovus is delighted to work with D-Wave in refining this exciting product: Individually factory-calibrated, Ω hmRanger-LCV ® measures from >100M down to 10 Ohms, with errors <1% across the range. It has:

  • 2 low stimulus voltages:
    • Approx 380mV (default), and
    • Approx 205mV.
  • Stimulus voltage at the output terminal is limited by the maximum current supply of approx 20mA.
  • A configurable audible signal to inform the operator that a stable reading has been achieved.
  • A fully isolated USB interface for device control and data export. Being fully isolated means attaching a USB cable should not affect your measurements.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

It'll just be the Ω hmRanger-LCV ®! We do not currently supply 2 x AA batteries, Probes, or Carry Cases.
